California- rain; Grand Canyon- snow

I am writing from the Grand Canyon Headquarters, where we got stuck due to heavy snow. Anyway, it is a tremendous spot even if you can't see the other side.

Yesterday I saw a coyote on my way from the restroom to the car, so finally I see same animals in all that national parks... nice!

Buffalo, NY, San Francisco

Holiday season!
After crossing the border with a Coach Canada bus we flew to JFK. Unfortunately, we missed the connection flight, guess what: Jet Blue offers NY-Frisco only once a day! So be back at the airport in 20 hours...
NY was cold and rainy (actually the bad weather in NY caused our delay, I just forgot about it) we had no hostel but shared the subway with some other people which were in the same situation. Well, I guess they are in this situation already for a couple of years. Anyway, at least I was in NY again!

I am now blogging from a youth hostel in San Francisco and will be heading to Yosemite National Park tomorrow... nice (and at least warmer than Toronto, St. Catharines or NY)

Fall term ended

Today I had my last exam and successfully (hopefully) finished my first term at Brock University.
The exams were held in the gym which would be a great idea for Hohenheim as well!
Tomorrow I will travel to California, so cu there!
(Oh, if you are not in California I wish you a nice time anyway)

studying and a german joke

Today I will hand in my second take home exam and write Money and Banking. I guess that is the reason for not writing any posts in my blog. Anyway, I found a nice joke, while learning on the internet, hah hah...
There we go:
"Mama, warum droht der Mann da vorne der Dame auf der Bühne mit dem Stock?"

"Er droht nicht, er dirigiert."

"Und warum schreit sie dann so?"

wish you a merry advent!

Final take-home exam

Well, actually I should do my take home exam. But as I am tired I rather write a blog entry.
I entered now the final weeks for the fall term. I have to finish my first take-home exam until Friday, but will receive the next one on Thursday already. Besides an economics assignment I still have to study for two final exams on the 8th respective the 10th of December.
So I will be busy, while Bekka enjoys Toronto during the strike at her university...

Hope this sounded stressful enough, so you look forward to reading my next holiday/traveling/ or whatsoever entries.

So far just one more Canada traveling hint: do not park within three meters of a water hydrant.

this are my tries to win a photography competition at the brock outdoors club. Unfortunately, I did not win.
Still, at least you might enjoy the pictures.

snow-finally!

finally the first snow reached St. Catharines today!
It was already snowy up north during the weekend (see bekka'a blog for further information)but today the winter arrived at my home.

Well, time is running. Last week (November 11) was Remembrance day. It was interesting as we had a remembrance meeting at school. It started with drums and a song by people from the First Nations, later on readings out of the Torah, Bible and the Koran and of course the national anthem.

Regarding University I am still busy finishing up some presentations, next week I will get the take home exams and the final exams will then be at the beginning of December.

Marilyn I. Walker donates $15 million to Brock University

Wow!
more information on www.brocku.ca during the next few days

I wonder if Hohenheim will ever get such a donation? maybe from you or from me? Nobody knows...
ok I stop dreaming and carry on working!

no pics but everything is alright

I feel good! Unfortunately my laptop is packed with data and in addition I installed Office 2007. So I have no space for pictures etc. anymore. Well, next week I will get an external hard drive so the shortage should be only temporary. It was just meant as an excuse for not providing any pics today…
We spent the weekend in Toronto, which is actually nicer than St. Catharines and experienced Halloween for the first time. It is not the U.S. but the people here are really eager to decorate the houses and wear funny dresses. The perfect day for $-shops to sell all their crap! Anyway, as I am not yet in the retail business I have to concentrate on my studies again. Besides the weekends I am really working hard and therefore enjoying marks that I hardly ever got in good old Hohenheim. Let’s see how the friends from the “Prüfungsamt” convert them in the end.
We handed in the Marketing paper on Monday so now I concentrate on the Strategic Management report that is due Tuesday. Unfortunately there are also some exams waiting for me as we almost reached the end of the term… so let’s hit the books again!

a little posting again...

As I got mixed up with am/pm yesterday evening, my alarm did not ring and I missed my morning classes. What a fortune, now I have time to post again!

down here you see two pictures of me and Bekka still from the Temagami trip. By the way, more up to date information you will find always on Bekka's blog http://www.kanada-bekka.blogspot.com/ (it is even in German).
I will just refer to the above mentioned blog to describe the last two weeks, that makes it easy for me. So I can carry on working on my group projects about Transfair Canada in the management course and banking websites in the marketing course (yes, I do attend a marketing class!).
But forget about studying, enjoy the pictures below:

back from Temagami

Canada - Temagami – canoeing – wilderness - …

So, after solving my internet troubles I am ready to post.

It was an awesome weekend! The temperature was close to summer (good for my cold), the wilderness was astonishing and the people were the best. Did I mention that Bekka was with on the trip? It was really nice.

What I just forgot to mention might be the fall colours, also referred to as Indian Summer, but you will see the picture – so why talk about.
I could not really decide which pics are the best, so I just choose them randomly. They look quite good anyway.

I think we made about 60km in the canoes on the four days which is really good for an October weekend. Ok, considering the mild climate I will not boast about it…

Before you think I am here “only for fun” the short notice that I get up at 6:30am most days and I am studying hard during the week. Next Exam: Saturday!

Back from Webster Falls, studying again

So, I am back from a short day trip at Webster Falls close to Hamilton...

The Consul General Reception

see where I was yesterday:

and after the official part we enjoyed T.

the nice thing was actually that I could see Bekka again on Friday, before I had to head back to St. Catharines.
You know!

Still, it is a bit busy around here, all the midterm exams are coming the following weeks(s).

Sunday and the week after…

I was busy writing an assignment for a marketing course. I do not know that much about marketing, but anyway it was more about the big five Canadian banks and their strategies in the U.S. market.
Interesting to know, that the Canadian see the sub-prime crisis also as mostly happening in the U.S., so do not get tempted to put them in the same category as their southern neighbours.

The Parade

Last Saturday Bekka, Troy and myself went to watch the St. Catharines Wine Festival Parade. It was really funny, although you can not really compare it with the Vaihinger Maientag. I really liked the little Go karts, but the cheerleaders have been nice as well.

Algonquin 2nd

my very first patch in Canada, after I survived an awesome canoe trip in Algonquin park

and that is our canoeing group while crossing a beaver dam

it was an amazing time, but it is to late for more text now...

Holiday again!

Stop studying! Start holidays!
Tomorrow I will go to the Algonquin Park again.
So I will be able to post some nice pictures in future...

I bought some equipment in the 2nd hand store, so be excited about the pics!

start of my studies

I spent now over $370 on books, still missing another one worth: $100.
Compared to about three books I bought before in my entire studies it is quite some money!
Food is also expensive. I think buying two burger every day would be the best deal. However, some people did not recommend to do so.

By bus it takes me about twenty minutes to get to school (that's how thy name University). With my white/purple bike it takes about the same, because the gears do not shift and there is a little hill on my way...

my sister-in-law and my brother on a short visit:

well, did you see the falls? at least we had a firework...

Holidays in Algonquin

After the orientation I quickly found a room to stay. So we could go on a interesting Ontario trip up to the Alqonquin National Park.

Orientation Week in York, Toronto

Right in the beginning I had an orientation seminary with the Ontario-Baden-Württemberg Program at York University.
It was very nice, the students came from Germany, France and India.
We stayed in a residence which was flooded - so we had action, and fortunately my stuff wasn't kaputt.

thats all my belongings in Canada right now:

Der Anfang auf Deutsch...

So,
jetzt bin ich blogger. Danke Daniel!
